A Body Sensor Measures Pulse in an Emergency
Diakonie, the Frauenhofer Institute, and many other Firms Work with Intelligent Clothing
By Anja Kummerov
ERLANGEN – The “Health” industry comprises one of the largest employers in the region: Approximately 45,000 individuals find employment in 500 firms that are exclusively or partially active in the field of medical technology. If one also considers medical care and research, approximately 70,000 individuals earn their living in the greater Nuremberg Metropolitan Area in the health industry.
In a series of articles, the “Nürnberger Zeitung” (Nuremberg Newspaper ) has been presenting the medical technology spectrum in the region. The current topic is “barrier-free health care assistance” - a joint project in which the Diakonie Neuendettelsau and the Fraunhofer Institute are working closely together.
Her tote bags are heavy. Gertrud Eisenstein must navigate five floors with them. As she reaches her destination, her pulse is racing and she has difficulty breathing. The 78 years old has not yet opened the door to her apartment when a voice speaks from her wristwatch: “Mrs. Eisenstein? Can you hear me? Are you okay?”
Tracking Stumbling Blocks and Obstacles
90 Minutes of Research for the Handicapped-City Guide “mobile in Nuremberg”
By Clara Grau
Nuremberg – Since January the Handicapped-City Guide “mobile in Nuremberg” has been online. Anyone can research on their home computer or on an internet capable mobile phone if public buildings, service facilities and places of interest are accessible for individuals having mobility, visual or hearing disabilities. Nuremberg plus (Nürnberg plus) accompanied staff members of the integration firm Netscouts, who collect data onsite and then enter such into the system.
The Memorial to the Nuremberg Trials was opened amidst great international interest in November 2010. Visitors from all over the world have since been able to inform themselves on how and why in 1945/46 an international military tribunal convicted high ranking officials of the national-socialist regime in proceedings held in courtroom 600.
But is such exhibit also accessible for disabled individuals? Such is put to test this April day by Gerd Sirotek and Kurt Pogoda of Netscouts. This IT service provider, which employs individuals with and without disabilities, is creating a digital city guide for public facilities on behalf of the City of Nuremberg.
Webservice „miN – mobile in Nuremberg“ Goes Online
Over the past three years the IT-Integration firm Netscouts gemeinnützige GmbH has been working closely with the Social Welfare and Social Integration Department (Social Welfare Office) of the City of Nuremberg on the development of a digital miN city guide. Such had previously only been available in the book form under the same title.
On Thursday, 27 January 2011, the webservice „miN – mobile in Nuremberg” was activated online for use by the general public. This service primarily (but not solely) provides information to disabled individuals on the accessibility of various governmental offices and places of interest.
The television report from „Good Evening Franconia” from 27 January 2011 (Franconian TV) can be viewed here.
